Its aim is to raise money to help people in need on the island, especially children. Over the years the Friends of Tenerife has given many thousands of Euros to a variety of worthy causes.
Donations given by the Friends of Tenerife between 2006 and 2010 totalled
52.816€, and included the following:
• Hospital Inmaculada |
4,623 € |
• APANATE |
12,500 € |
• Hogar Santa Rita |
8,700 € |
• Asociación San Lázaro |
19.652 € |
• Centro Matilde Tellez
|
4.250 € |
We raise money by holding Events such as luncheons, dinner dances, car boot sales, auctions, and fashion shows. We have fun doing this, we meet new people and we give something back to the island we are privileged to call home. We are particularly proud of the fact that apart from administrative costs such as raffle prizes, postage, printing and stationery we donate all of the proceeds from our events.
So come along, Join Us and make lots of new friends whilst helping those less fortunate than ourselves. The Membership Fee is just 10 € and entitles you to preferential prices at all our events, plus copies of our Newsletters.
We also host a Business Directory on our website, costing just 40 € per entry.
In the News:
The Annual General Meeting 2010
This was held at the Hotel Palmeras Playa on March 18th and some fifty members attended. The President, Helen Jamieson, welcomed everyone and said that she was prepared to carry on for at least another year, thanking her committee. She explained several future aims and introduced Carmen Borges who had, together with Tony Stanley, been co-opted onto the committee after the resignations of Susan Dickinson, Martine Bravo and Thelma Bravo, who were thanked by the members for all their hard work.
The Committee was re-elected as nobody else had been proposed. The post of Social Secretary is at the moment being shared between the members of the committee until the situation settles down. Thanks were expressed to Mary Love Donaldson who audited the accounts.
President: Helen Jamieson. Vice-President: Jean Pennington. Treasurer: Nikki Smith. Secretary: Ruby Tuesday. Ex-officio members: Tony Stanley and Carmen Borges.
Recent Past Event:
Tuesday, June 22nd, Brunch at the Monasterio.
The buffet lunch on the terrace at the Monasterio on June 22 was enjoyable as usual. The sun shone from time to time, and it was pleasantly warm. We started with orange juice and champagne (converted to Buck's fizz by most!), then there were lots of delicious German rolls followed by the traditional bacon and egg fix! Anyway, at least one little chick had survived the frying pan, and wandered among us with his mum, to everyone's delight, eating the left over bacon, . All in all a good day (despite the failure of the PA system!) - there was a good attendance, and lots was raised for charity!
