Keeping in Touch

We are hoping to keep in touch with our members by regular newsletters. We will also continue to place regular articles in Tenerife News and Island Connections.

To reduce costs it would be useful if members with an email address could give us their address so we can email the information to them instead of sending it in the post. Please contact Wendy or send your email address to her at kathrynwendy@hotmail.com

Any fully paid up member who wishes to stand for election for any of the Committee roles, at the Annual General Meeting, must complete the official Nomination Form and return it to Wendy Sanderson at: Avda Luis de la Cruz y Rios Edificio Tagoro Park Portal 3 3D El Mayorazgo 38300 La Orotava (telephone number 922 320987) by the closing date of Monday 24th March.

Should any member with to raise any points for discussion, please contact the Secretary at least 3 days prior to the meeting.

As refreshments will be served after the meeting please contact Wendy on the above mentioned telephone number to confirm attendance so we know how much to provide.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT

2007was a very busy and rewarding year for Friends of Tenerife. I feel that although Friends of Tenerife has existed for many years, 2007 has seen the biggest change - most importantly in the setting up of the sub committee in the South and the massive growth of membership in both the North and South. This has been very exciting and it has been a privilege for me to experience this change in my capacity a president. I look forward to another successful year and hope to see you all again in the near future.

SOCIAL SECRETARY'S REPORT

We have had a great year socially and with all our donations to people in need. We should all feel proud that we have in some way helped to make life a little easier for those less fortunate - and there are many.

Our membership continues to grow and now stands at over 300. I believe this is due to affordable and varied functions. In August a sub committee was formed in the South and so far after just a few events they have raised a lot of money.

I don't intend to go into detail about our past events as I am sure you are more interested in our plans for the future! This is what's planned to date:

17th March - St. Patrick's Day lunch at the Apt°s Masaru
4th April      - Spring Ball at the Hotel Palmeras Playa
19th April    - Helen Jamieson Dress Sale at Hotel Palmeras Playa

Don't forget to visit us at our stall at the church car boot sales on 1st March & 5th April!

I would also like to say what a great job Helen is doing as president, she's positive, enthusiastic and a lot of fun!

Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to seeing you at our future events.

FRIENDS OF TENERIFE (SOUTH)

There's been a lot of activity in the South since the last newsletter...more about that later. Firstly, to tie up loose ends we are delighted to inform all our members in the South of the fantastic amount raised at the Valentines Ball held at the Grand Hotel Anthelia on 14/2/07 - € 5500! All this mooney was donated to Proyecto Martha 2 in La Laguna. Thank you for your generosity.

To move on...A sub committee was formed in August headed by Liz Montague as vice Social Secretary. Immediately she threw herself into her new role by organizing a lunch at Bianco's restaurant in Plaza del Duque. 80 people attended, many of whom became new members and with encouragement from Liz helped to raise € 1293.70. A second lunch was organized at JD Leas on 14th December which raised € 500. Being a Christmas lunch a fancy hat competition was held which was won by Pat Bragg, a member from Callao Salvaje.

To promote Friends of Tenerife within the South a stall was taken at the Lions Christmas Bazaar on 9th December. This not only raised our profile but also € 238.08! Recruitment of members continued and membership in the South now stands at 87.

Liz is now busy organizing her first big event, another Valentines Ball to be held in Villa Cortes, Playa de las Americas. She is confident it will be a great success. It has been promoted on Power FM and in the local press so hopefully many of our members will already have reserved their places.

Although there are no further events planned at present, Liz has plenty of ideas and will be putting them into practice as soon as possible. Details will be on the radio and in the local press and we are also hoping to send another newsletter out within the next 2 months. If anyone would like to join Liz and become more involved she can be contacted on 661 274281. She will be delighted to hear from you.

MEMBERSHIP NEWS

As mentioned throughout this newsletter we have had a bumper year for recruiting new members. Although we now have over 300 members it is Helen's ambition to have 500 members on our books,, thus raising € 5000 per year. However this figure relies on everyone renewing their subs each year so this is an opportune time to remind everyone that subs are due on 1st March! Don't forget membership entitles you to discounted prices for all our events

Payment can be made at the AGM on 31st March or by contacting Wendy on 922 320 978.
