HISTORY:

FRIENDS OF TENERIFE also registered as AMIGOS DE TENERIFE with the number G 38367892

Friends of Tenerife was founded in 1994 by Roy & Chris Longden, Roger & Gina Strange, William & Dawn Rutherford & Betty Cope.  Roy, Chris & Gina are honorary members and still attend many of our functions.

The Friends of Tenerife has grown from a ladies lunch for 22 to a membership of over 250.

At the last AGM, president Ann Goulden decided it was time to step down after many years of hard but rewarding work. Ann is still involved with the San Lazaro home for children with cerebral palsy.

Our new president, Helen Jamieson, was born in Glasgow and at the age of four moved to the picturesque village of Carmunnock in the beautiful Scottish countryside. She sang in the local church choir which gave Helen her love of singing. At the age of 28 Helen became a professional entertainer and spent the next 20years doing the work she loved.

Helen is well travelled and spent many years in the middle east. She and husband Tom retired to Tenerife 20 years ago and have loved every minute spent here. Helen's role as president is positive and confident. Her bright bubbly personality inspires enthusiasm to all around her. Her aim is to raise as much money as possible for those less fortunate than ourselves.

Friends of Tenerife have donated money to:

- Madre Matilde an orphanage in Puerto de la Cruz
- Martha 11 a centre for people with cerebral palsy,in La    Laguna
- Apanate, A learning centre for people with Autism, in La    Orotava.
- Joshua Bliss a little boy with Leukaemia, South of    Tenerife.
- Tsunami Disaster Fund.
Hogar Santa Rita, raising money for research and a    residential home for Altzheimers sufferers.
